Update on Danbury Area Family Visits & Chappaqua Programs – Link to Recording of Sept. 1st Family Meeting

Two important things to know this Friday:
First, out of an abundance of caution, due to the Danbury area increase in COVID cases, we are continuing to pause on community activities and visits to family homes for the greater Danbury area program sites. This includes homes in Danbury, Ridgefield, Bethel, Newtown, Brookfield, New Fairfield and New Milford. We will continue with outside family visits for all locations (including the greater Danbury area), but ask that you refrain from food consumption during the time of visit for the next week, just to ensure that masks stay on at all times. We will re-evaluate this measure next week.
Second, we unfortunately have a person we serve who has just tested positive for COVID for the second time. This person was briefly in our Chappaqua building yesterday. This person did not have any contact with persons served, and was not in the gym or the Day Program areas. We believe the risk to be extremely low since the person, and those around him, were all wearing masks, all protocols were being followed, the space is cleaned at a minimum of twice daily, the person was asymptomatic, the test results may be due to being “persistent positive,” and the Chappaqua space had been previously treated with the 3-year antimicrobial treatment to help decrease the likelihood of exposure. The clinic and the Day Program will be open on Monday. Again, out of an abundance of caution, we will be:
  1. Quarantining those who came in contact with the person.
  2. Having the common areas at Chappaqua professionally cleaned and antimicrobial disinfected.
  3. Some clinicians will revert to treating remotely starting Monday.
Please know that we continue to have excellent statistics as an organization, and that every precaution we take is a step towards keeping the entire Ability Beyond family safe. We will continue our “abundance of caution” approach, and be transparent in our communications.

Sept. 4th Update:  External visits and community outings will remain on pause for the coming week out of an abundance of caution due to the public health advisory for the City of Danbury.
