Nonprofit Rally & Lobby Day – May 24

Rally at Connecticut State Capital to Demand Equitable Funding

As you may have heard, community nonprofits are coming up short in the budget being considered by Connecticut's General Assembly.

Despite a  more than $3 billion budget surplus, Connecticut lawmakers are looking to add just $20 million for private providers — a one percent increase for the next two years. With inflation on the rise, this is a de facto funding cut. With such a huge surplus while private providers are struggling, this is simply unacceptable.

Advocates for additional funding and support for community providers have organized a rally at the State Capitol for Wednesday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Jane Davis, the Chief Executive Officer for Ability Beyond, said the near zero increase on top of decades of underfunding private service providers is creating a crisis among care for people with disabilities.

“Unfortunately, I’m getting calls  from other providers who say they can no longer afford to provide services,” Davis said. “It’s concerning to think about where they might go next for help when all providers will feel the strain of an effective cut given the rise in costs without increases in funding.”
